The story follows a slightly grumpy regular Englishman named Arthur Dent. One morning, his house is due to be knocked down to accommodate a new by-pass. Just minutes later, the entire Earth is destroyed by aliens to build a space highway.

Arthur is saved by his friend Ford, who is actually an alien. They hitch a ride on a spaceship and travel across the stars. Along the way they meet a cast of weird characters, including a two-headed space president and a very sad grumpy robot named Marvin.

The book has lots of very silly "facts." The story isn't just about space battles; it’s also about how very strange and confusing the universe is. It’s written with classic British humour, clever and a bit sarcastic. It is a book full of things that happen but make no sense whatsoever.

Even though it's set in space, it makes fun of real-life things like annoying bosses and paperwork. It’s a quick, easy read & a real page turner that will definitely make you laugh out loud.

This book really gets better as it goes on, you just never know what is going to happen - but you need to go along for the ride!!
